180th anniversary of John Venn’s birthday

Today Google conmemorates the 180th anniversary of John Venn’s birthday. John Venn (4 August 1834 – 4 April 1923) introduced the so-called Venn diagram which we often use for explaining set theory.

Among his works, Venn wrote three books about Logic: The Logic of Chance (1866), Symbolic Logic (1881) and Principles of Empirical Logic (1889) and in the second he introduced his diagrams. He could see some properties of the sets drawing circles within circles and established a new way of thinking about the set theory.
